SS Scooter

The Vespa and Lambretta encompass over 60 years of innovative engineering and design. At S.S. Scooter we adhere to these fine standards during every restoration project.

We talk closely with each customer to understand their ideas, the function of the scooter and above all the style of the scooter.

Each scooter is considered as contributing to an automotive heritage and history, so every project, whether it be a rare Series One TV175 or a commuter PX200, is rebuilt and restored to a first class standard.

The following examples are but a taste of what we do.

VNB Street Sleeper
VNB Street Sleeper Restoration

Every year, Sandy puts aside some time, money and energy to build a personal project. After acquiring a very original and straight VNB frame, Sandy decided to create a powerful scooter inspired from the early 1945 MP6. His objective was to create a full bodied street racer but with all the elegance and subtlty of the early Vespas. With the National Classic Scooter rally being held in the Barossa Valley S.A. coming up it was the right motivation to get her completed on time and on budget. With a PX 125 engine in hand, Sandy welded up the transfers on the casing to accommodate the 7-port Quatrinni 172 kit, and blueprinted the casings to optimize the estimated 24.3 hosrepower upgrade. The casing was also welded on the intake to fit the large reed-block and carb. Topped off with a modified Grimeca disc kit, a modified PK front fork and Bitubo front and rear suspension, this scooter now has the speed, handling and stopping power to create the perfect street sleeper.

1968 Lambretta Vega 75
Lambretta Vega 75 Restoration

Sandy has always had a soft spot for the quirky 1960's design of the Vega. So after finding a Vega 75S on the outskirts of Sydney he decided it had to be his next project. The old man had owned it from new and in the 70's he decided to revamp her with a can of bright yellow house paint and a brush. Unfortuantely he never got her recabled and she was never started again. The inch thick leaded house paint however did serve to protect her from the harsh Aussie elements. She was taken back to bare metal and resprayed, cabled and and rewired. Sadly during her 'first bright yellow revamp' the indicator switch and indicators went misssng, but she still retains the additional bar on the rear of the number plate holder for the indicators that were fitted to Australian imported Vegas. The Vega S engine has also been fully rebuilt with NOS parts that Sandy had been collecting over the years. She now runs and rides like a dream Vega.

Sil Lambretta GP200
Lambretta GP200 Restoration

The brief for this project was to restore the vintage scooter with a modern twist. The engine is powered by a mildly -tuned Imola barrel and piston featuring Variatronic igntion, a 5 plate lightened clutch and a 30mm Dellorto carb, all mated to a custom twisted expansion pipe. The suspension was all uprated and stopping power is provided by a custom billet disc brake conversion. To add the modern twist, the paint is a metallic version of the Lambretta Ochre with a red pearl. The aluminium and chrome were all 'black' nickled and powdercoated in satin black. Final touches such as the carbon fibre-look fuel tank and custom billet kick start lever and brake pedal create a formidial street 'sleeper while still retaining the classsic lines and beauty of Bertone’s original GP design.

Vespa Sprint Rebuild
Vespa Sprint Restoration

S.S. Scooter was given the task of restoring this Vespa Sprint that had been dismantled many years ago and boxed up. Every part was carefully examined for wear and tear and new parts found for those that were missing or too far gone to be restored. The engine was given the S.S. treatment with a new crank, piston, seals, bearings and a complete gearbox overhaul. A unique candy apple two-tone paint scheme was applied to the freshly straightened body. Coupled with a set of retro cool Continental whitewalls and loads of chrome work makes this a stand-out classic scooter.

1958 Lambretta TV175
Lambretta TV175 Restoration

On April 10th 1957, Innocenti released the Lambretta TV175. It was a total break in design from all other models and it was to become the benchmark for future Lambrettas. This TV175 was imported from Switzerland in 2007. She was in a poor state of affairs but was complete, and as such, was ideal for an original restoration. After stripping the scooter down, every nut and bolt was carefully cleaned and sent off to be cadmium plated. Parts that were beyond salvaging were sourced. The body was given the full treatment and finished off with a lush coat of Ivory 8028. With the rebuilt horizontally-aligned cylinder engine installed, she fired up after nearly 40 years of lying dormant by a very proud and happy owner.

Vespa SS180
Vespa SS180 Restoration

The SS180 with its 181cc piston ported engine was one of the quickest Vespas to leave the Piaggio stable. With 8.7 horsepower the SS180 became a very sought after scooter. This SS had been ridden daily and the time had come to breathe some life back into her. The engine had already been extensively overhauled, but all the wiring and cabling needed to be replaced and the body and chrome needed to be restored. She's still ridden daily but now this SS looks and goes beautifully while still getting her owner to work on time every morning.
